Portuguese, born in Angola in 1968, Marcelo Nuno Gonçalves Pereira holds a degree in Economics from the University of Coimbra and a Master’s degree in European Economics from ICADE, Madrid.
He began his career in the financial sector (first in Banking and then in capital markets), but soon began to assume leadership roles and greater responsibility in companies in other sectors.
Concurrently, Marcelo Pereira has taught at several universities. He taught in Economics, Management, and Auditing courses/programs, covering disciplines such as Strategic Planning, Management Control, Microeconomics, and Marketing at both undergraduate and Master’s levels.
With extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, Marcelo has managed companies across diverse industries, including financial services (with roles as director in financial institutions and capital markets brokerage), water supply and sanitation sector, manufacturing, services, and Oil & Gas. His career has predominantly involved multinational corporations, though he has also had significant roles in many different sectors, including consultancy for various companies and government entities.
Marcelo Pereira is a Senior Manager at the European healthcare group IDEALMED GHS and has been the CEO of Oman International Hospital (OIH) since early 2021, a year before its opening, assigned to this role by IDEALMED, the operator of OIH.
Under his leadership, OIH, a private hospital classified as Band A+, has rapidly become the largest in its segment in Oman, surpassing established competitors with decades of operation. Despite its relatively short history, OIH has developed several centres of excellence, attracting patients from across the globe and transforming the local healthcare landscape, which previously relied heavily on treatment abroad.
