Martin Asser is a seasoned leader in communication, with experience in higher education, international journalism and digital editorial development. His background includes roles as associate vice president for communication at the American University of Beirut, digital editor at the BBC Arabic service, and as a roving correspondent in the Arab world for the BBC News website. He currently trains journalists for the BBC Academy as part of the broadcaster’s digital-first transformation strategy. He joined the newly installed leadership team at AUB in 2015 with a mission to optimize corporate messaging, restructure campus communications resources, and implant principles of digital storytelling. Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in Arabic and a master’s in Arabic translation and applied linguistics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London.
