Omar El Hamamsy was appointed Group CEO of Orascom Development Holding (ODH) in 2020. Listed on the SIX Swiss exchange, Orascom Development is a multinational company that creates destinations and builds vibrant, integrated communities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Prior to joining Orascom Development, Omar was a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company. Throughout his 18 years at McKinsey, he led several practices and worked with clients across multiple industries such as telecom, high-tech, private equity, logistics, and transportation, supporting them on topics ranging from strategy, organization, sales and marketing, operations, and finance. He was primarily responsible for leading comprehensive transformations of multinational companies in the Middle East and Europe. He also worked on several cross-border acquisitions and integrations for these companies.

In the past three years, Omar has brought his extensive global experience to deliver record achievements for Orascom Development amidst challenging times under the global pandemic and turbulent economic environment. He led several commercial acceleration efforts to diversify the Company’s offerings and revenue streams and activate new source markets. This was coupled with a group-wide transformation program aiming to enhance the Group’s operational efficiency, supported by hiring a top talent management team. Omar’s efforts have led to doubling the Group’s revenues and realizing profitability for the first time in eight years. At the same time, he has helped preserve the company’ heritage of thinking long-term, focusing on customers, and entrepreneurial approach that continuously drives ODH’s performance.

Omar is a member of the regional Board of Directors of “Injaz Al-Arab” and a member of Junior Achievements Worldwide, a non-profit organization focused on youth education. Omar holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He is an avid pilot in his free time.
