Thibaud Simphal, Global Head of Sustainability at Uber, graduated from King’s College London, the Sorbonne and Paris Assas University, and obtained an MBA from London Business School.
Thibaud founded several startups in France, before joining the European Commission’s DG Trade in Brussels. After his MBA, he worked at a cleantech venture capital firm, and helped transform his family’s farming business into a diversified business of high-tech farming, organic farming, and 35MW of wind, solar and biogas energy production. He then joined LexisNexis in New York and London, and later started a boutique consultancy in strategy and a seed capital investment vehicle.
Thibaud joined Uber in 2014 to continue his passion for entrepreneurship and technology, when he launched and rapidly scaled Uber’s Mobility and UberEats/Delivery businesses in France. From 2016 to 2022, he then led Uber in Western & Southern Europe as Regional General Manager for the area, overseeing its fast-growing business across 12 countries in France, Germany/DACH, Spain/Iberia, and Southern Europe. In parallel, between 2018 and 2022, he also founded and led a new business called Hailables (Taxi, Auto, Moto), and scaled it to become one of Uber’s largest and fastest-growing new businesses globally. In February 2022, Thibaud became Uber’s Global Head of Sustainability, a role in which he leads and oversees Uber’s global strategy and operations in sustainability, electrification and emissions reduction across all business lines and corporate operations.
Thibaud is originally from Champagne, France. He has lived in France, Belgium, Spain, the UK, and the US. He now lives in Barcelona and is married with two kids.
