Edward J. Cupler, MD, FAAN is currently the Executive Director of the Research Centre (RC) / Research and Innovation (R&I) and Consultant, Neurologist and Neuromuscular Diseases Specialist at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). He is also an Adjunct Professor in the College of Medicine, AlFaisal University and the founder of SANEM: Saudi Arabian Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine branch of the Saudi Neurology Society (SNS). Dr. Cupler earned his undergraduate studies and medical school at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, United States of America (USA). He completed his Internal Medicine internship at the Loyola University in Chicago and Neurology Residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston followed by a Neuromuscular Diseases Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda.

Dr. Cupler initially joined KFSH&RC Riyadh from 1996 to 2005, where he was actively involved in clinical research, post-graduate education and basic research. He then moved to Oregon Health Sciences University where he was the Director of the Neuromuscular Diseases Center, Director of the MDA Clinic and Co-Director of the ALS Center of Oregon and held the Associate Professor of Neurology position. He re-joined KFSH&RC Jeddah in 2010 as a Consultant and was later appointed Deputy Executive Director, RC. In 2021, he was assigned and relocated to the RC / R&I and was then appointed Executive Director in 2022. Dr. Cupler has authored numerous academic publications, book chapters, web-based educational activities and abstracts and has delivered lectures at local and international conferences globally. He has also mentored young neurologists and has conducted research throughout his career.
