She obtained her Bachelor of Science (BSc) in biochemistry at San Diego State University, United States of America and later her Master of Science (MSc) in Medical Engineering at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. She subsequently obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical and Forensic Science at the University of Western Australia in Australia. She has since completed a one-year Global Clinical Scholars Research Training program at Harvard Medical School. Her research interest is constructing the genomic structures of individuals of Arab descent to identify genomic segments that carry gene(s) that predispose to disease. Specifically, addressing diseases that are increasing in prevalence amongst the local communities of the UAE. Dr. Alsafar has identified a gene strongly associated with the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes among the Emirati population. This is the first Genome Wide Association Study of the UAE Bedouin population and first of its kind in the Middle East. Her passion for genome has led to the description of the first whole genome sequence of Emirati subjects, insights into the genetic diversity of the population of the UAE and most recently, the description of a reference genome for the UAE population.

Dr. Cupler earned his undergraduate studies and medical school at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, United States of America (USA). He completed his Internal Medicine internship at the Loyola University in Chicago and Neurology Residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston followed by a Neuromuscular Diseases Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. He then moved to Oregon Health Sciences University where he was the Director of the Neuromuscular Diseases Center, Director of the MDA Clinic and Co-Director of the ALS Center of Oregon and held the Associate Professor of Neurology position. In 2021, he was assigned and relocated to the RC / R&I and was then appointed Executive Director in 2022. He was also elected as an EMBO member and as a member of the young Israeli academy of science. The first Arab amputee to complete a super sprint in Dubai women’s triathlon 2018. Dareen’s name entered history in June 2021 with her recent big achievement of breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest Samson’s chair sit, also known as a static wall sit, by a female contender. Dareen won the title after completing the sit for two minutes and 8.24 seconds, and the record also makes her the first female amputee to hold a Guinness World Record in the Middle East. Her journey has impacted and still impacting a lot of people from all over the world. Dareen is a brand ambassador for big nanes like adidas and Victoria’s Secret. With a decade of specialized experience, starting in treating cancer survivors at Clemenceau Medical Center, affiliated with John Hopkins International, she is an expert in integrative and anti-aging medicine. She is considered a leading practitioner in preventive health and longevity, dedicated to helping individuals age in good health with balance, sanity, and vitality.
