Chef Roaya Saleh, the founder of Villa Mamas, is celebrated for her dedication to authentic, heartfelt cooking and community impact. Born and raised in Bahrain, her culinary journey began in her family’s kitchen, where the traditions of using fresh, locally sourced ingredients were deeply ingrained. These roots inspired her to craft a menu that intertwines traditional Gulf flavours with global influences, creating a dining experience that resonates with a wide audience.
Villa Mamas began in 2012, began as an intimate neighbourhood dining destination in the Saar district of Bahrain. Famous for its home-style hospitality, Villa Mamas is an extension of Roaya’s kitchen. The first UK outpost opened in London’s South Kensington in 2017, bringing the warmth of Khaleeji food and communal dining to the heart of the city. Building on its success, Villa Mamas expanded to Abu Dhabi in 2020 and Riyadh in 2022, with exciting new openings planned as part of its global journey. Each location brings its own interpretation of Villa Mamas’ ethos, blending a respect for heritage with a commitment to evolving Middle Eastern dining on a global stage.
Roaya’s involvement goes beyond the kitchen—she personally designs the menus and champions young women in the culinary field through various initiatives. Her commitment to supporting local farmers extends internationally, as seen in her partnerships with suppliers like Andreas the Greengrocer in London, ensuring quality and sustainability. Whether she’s in Bahrain, Riyadh, or London, Chef Roaya’s presence is felt, and her hands-on approach ensures each dish reflects her vision.
Her culinary vision and leadership have positioned her as a pioneer in modern Middle Eastern cuisine, earning recognition from esteemed publications and industry leaders. Roaya’s passion continues to drive Villa Mamas’ growth while preserving the authenticity that made it a beloved destination from the start.
