Her Highness Sheikha Dr Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan is a leading advocate for culture, education and national identity. Before arriving, Ms. Menander was Head of Project Exports and International Procurement within the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm. She was the senior official in charge of the Swedish Export Credit Agency and member of the Board of Swecare, a public/private sector platform for internationalization of Swedish healthcare. Her career at the Ministry began in 2000, focusing on development and trade policy as well as EU affairs. She was appointed Deputy Permanent Representative to UNEP and UNHABITAT at the Swedish embassy in Nairobi (2004-07) and then Director/Deputy Head of department for Multilateral Development Co-operation in Stockholm (2007-11). During that time she was member of the Board at the Climate Investment Funds and the Global Environment Facility. Simultaneously, she was Sweden’s lead negotiator in replenishments for the African Development Bank/Fund. During 2011-12, Ms. Menander worked at the African Development Bank headquarters in Tunis, initially as advisor to the Chief Operating Officer. She then headed the Secretariat for coordination of the leading International Financial Institutions’ support to transition in Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Morocco, and Libya as part of the Deauville Partnership. 2013-18 Ms. Menander visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region regularly as Chief Business Development Officer at Skane Care, providing access for international clients to Swedish healthcare expertise through training, consultancy services and direct medical care. She was then among the founding members of the Saudi-Swedish Joint Business Council.In the early days as a diplomat, Ms. Menander served at the EU delegation in Jordan, also covering Yemen (1998-2000). This followed on internships with the European Commission in Brussels and the World Bank in Cairo, Egypt. Ms. Menander holds a M.Sc. in Economics (development/trade) from Lund University and certificates from Arabic language studies in Cairo, Egypt. She has participated in volunteering assignments regarding women leadership as well as for refugees in Sweden. She is fluent in Swedish, English and has basics in French, Arabic, German as well as Scandinavian languages.
Before her current position she served as a Minister plenipotentiary and Deputy Head of
Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Paris, France (2019–2022), and at the Permanent
Representation of Finland to the Council of Europe during the Presidency of Finland to the
Ministers’ Committee in Strasbourg, France (2018–2019), and as the Head of
Administration and Personnel at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU in
Brussels, Belgium (2012-2015). Mrs. Anu-Eerika has worked for the Finnish Foreign
Ministry for nearly 23 years and served also in various leading positions at the Ministry for
Foreign Affairs of Finland. She has a strong background on multilateral affairs, security
policy and equality issues.
Mrs. Anu-Eerika was born in Lahti, Finland in 1974. She graduated from the University of
Helsinki in 2001 with a Master’s in Law (LLM), and has completed courses in the studies on
Business Administration and leadership at the University of Vaasa in 2005.
In 2022, she was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the non-resident Ambassador of Finland to the Republic
of Yemen, and the Sultanate of Oman.
Mrs. Anu-Eerika is married and has two adult children, and her hobbies include exercise
and performing different kinds of sports.
H.E. Maria Belovas has served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the United Arab Emirates since August 2024. She is concurrently accredited to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, and also serves as Estonia’s Permanent Representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
With over 15 years of experience in international relations and diplomacy, Ambassador Belovas has spent more than half of her career in leadership positions. Her expertise encompasses strategic communication, nation branding, partnership management, and public diplomacy, making her a key figure in Estonia’s global engagement efforts.

Randa Bessiso is the Founding Director Middle East, of the University of Manchester Dubai, which was established in Dubai in 2006 and which is now the largest in the University’s international network.
